June 12, 2009, was an epoch in the annals of the Nigerian media. On that day, one of Nigeria's leading national newspapers, The Nation, achieved a novel first in the then near two-century-old history of the country's media. The newspaper started publishing highly informative multimedia archival contents on digital-age discs. It also gave out hundreds of thousands of the discs, as free disc-inserts in every copy of particular editions of the newspaper for the rest of that year. It was the first time ever such was happening and the event effectively announced the arrival the Nigerian media in the digital-age media ecosystem.
Biographies of at least 5000 notable Nigerians, were among the most popular of the contents of The Nation's digital-age disc inserts in 2009. That section was a smpler for publishing copious information like biographies on digital-age medium. It was Nigeria's first WhoisWho publication on digital-age discs. It was published on the free Disc-inserts circulated by the newspaper on October 1, 2009. It was also the first ever digital-age Who is Who of Nigerians which also included a comprehensive listing of the first 500,000 businesses registered in Nigeria between 1914 and 2004.
October 1, 2024 will also be another epoch in the history of the Nigerian media. A more comprehensive compilation of biographies of notable Nigerians will be published along with a comprehensive listing of all businesses ever registered in Nigeria since 1914. Two million copies of the epochal digital-age publication will be made available for circulation on compact discs, USB flash drives and customized downloadable Apps that will run on any mobile phones, pads or computers.
